Anderson Plug Supply and Installation

Why Cigarette Lighter Plugs Fail

Standard 12V accessory sockets are simply not designed to handle the high, continuous current loads required for modern camping.

Melted Plugs & Fire Risk

Running a high-draw compressor or fridge through a flimsy cigarette plug causes extreme resistance and melting.

Vibration Disconnections

Standard plugs easily vibrate loose on corrugated outback roads, leaving your fridge without power.

Voltage Drop

Thin wiring and weak contacts lead to massive voltage drops, preventing auxiliary batteries from charging properly.

Secure, Color-Coded Power Sharing

Anderson plugs utilize rugged polycarbonate housings and heavy-duty contacts to eliminate these issues entirely.

Secure, Color-Coded Power Sharing
  • 1

    Crimped Solid Connections

We hydraulically crimp heavy-gauge wires (like 6 B&S or 8 B&S) directly into silver-plated solid copper terminals.

  • 2

    Genderless Housing

The unique genderless housing means two identical plugs snap together tightly, creating a massive surface area for power transfer.

  • 3

    Vibration Proofing

Once clicked together, the internal stainless steel leaf springs hold the contacts firmly in place, immune to rough off-roading.

  • 4

    Circuit Segregation

We use Grey plugs universally for standard 12V, and Red plugs specifically for unregulated solar to ensure you never accidentally mix inputs.

The Gold Standard for Auxiliary Power

Grey = Standard 12V

The industry standard for general 12V power transfer, dual batteries, and running fridges.

Red = Solar Inputs

Distinctly keyed Red plugs are exclusively used for unregulated solar inputs to protect sensitive equipment.

Silver-Plated Contacts

Designed for maximum conductivity, preventing heat buildup and voltage drop during massive amp draws.

Polycarbonate Housing

Extremely impact-resistant shells that survive rocks, dropping, and the harshest UV environments.

Self-Wiping Action

Connecting the plugs wipes the contacts clean, ensuring a perfect connection even in dusty terrain.

Heavy Gauge Wiring

We pair the plugs with premium Australian-standard heavy gauge cable (6 B&S) for unrestricted power flow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Red plug connect to a Grey plug?
No. Genuine Anderson plugs are physically keyed by color. A grey plug will only mate with a grey plug, and a red plug will only mate with a red plug to prevent dangerous cross-connections.
Why do I need an Anderson plug for my caravan?
Modern caravans require significant power to charge onboard house batteries and run standard fridges on the road. Only an Anderson connection can safely transmit the required 30-50 amps.
Do you use genuine Anderson Power Products?
Yes. We avoid cheap imitations that warp under heat. We only use genuine APP housings and contacts for safety.
Where can the plug be mounted?
Typically, we mount them securely on your tow bar next to the trailer socket, inside the tub of a ute, or in the boot for portable fridge usage.
Will installing an Anderson plug drain my main battery?
Not when installed correctly. We wire rear-mounted Anderson plugs via a heavy-duty Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) or ignition-triggered relay so they disconnect when the engine is off.
What size wire do you use?
We calculate the exact voltage drop for your vehicle length, typically utilizing 8 B&S or 6 B&S twin core automotive cable for rear installations.
